what's up?

call me wednesday

not my usual car, but i really liked the paint on it. and it was out here by itself. unfortunate that the other club's banner is up there on top of another car's convertible top directly behind it. oh well.

i liked the way it smiled too:

oh ya, regarding the title, anyone watch the addams family movies? my better half remembers seeing the first one, and upon seeing the girl, wednesday, he thought, "holy shit, that's kathy." especially when they come out from the little cabin and she says something to the effect of wanting to be perky, and then tries to smile, thereupon scaring everyone.

ya, that would be me. dark and twisty, and i don't smile a lot unless it's for real...the continuing arguement/discussion of me not smiling at car shows or on demand.  i can't fake one. really, i will, if there's a reason.

hell, that's not true either. i have wedding photos without a satisfactory smile plastered on either. sorry d. photoshop can fix that...joker joker joker!

i considered hitting four car shows today. some kind of penance for missing out on last weekend's shows. i didn't do anything wrong, and really, it wouldn't be any kind of punishment anyway. i decided two was good enough, then bought some towels at a nearby mall for my mother-in-law, and headed home. well that was random...

first stop was a small show over at st. gregory's the great church. i think there were more vendor booths than cars, and double that ratio for cars i want to shoot.

found this sweet yellow impala in the far corner of the show. owned by a very nice, older man, who chatted with me a bit while i took some pictures of the tail lights.

he said at first, he was unhappy to be directed to this location, but after they cranked up the sound system, he was quite happy to be relatively far from it, and not going deaf. pretty sure the current top ten pop music isn't his favorite anyway.

and check out the awesome clouds that were going on this morning. hardly any later in the day, at a show in la puente.

anyway, i liked this car, and the owner was the only one that i handed a card to, so i hope he sees this picture.

ford truck

i've seen this truck before. also saw it somewhere else, but didn't like where it was located, and passed it by.

but here, the big, tough truck, in front of trees full of flowers, and no one around, how could i not take that shot?

i didn't get to the braybrooks show, so i made the best of the day, and hit this high school show and another in whittier. this one had a live band playing oldies, under the hot sun, on the back of a flatbed semi truck. pretty good show too. seemed pretty proud of their guitars too.

too many hoods up. i suppose i should have taken another shot of redd's plymouth back there, but he didn't even say hi, so whatever. j/k. didn't like the shade on it.

1951 chevy

i was going to post this chevy last night and include some pithy comments about wtf santa was already doing at the mall, but my blog provider seemed to be having some issues. still is, and they're working on helping me out. meanwhile, i'm in a less pissy mood, and trying to post from my ipad.

love the hood ornaments on these chevys. simple. classic. golden. the car ain't bad either. found this one at the oldies san fernando car show. i remember this one well. so freekin hot that day. didn't stay long. was waiting for my better half and his red-haired nephew, outside the main field of cars under a tree. they got there, offered me a bottle of water, and i asked if i could take a few minutes to walk down this inner lane of cars before we go. sure sure.

this chevy was down at the end. next to the entrance to another whole field of cars. damnit. i've mentioned in a previous post, that all i could do was quickly stumble around the entrance of this field, as i had no energy or time left to shoot more. eeeefffffff!

we're already planning how we will manage to stay cool when we go next year. he's thinking umbrella hats. i'm thinking bathing suit and shorts.

man, i'm baked

not what you thought—pull your head out. i mean, it was really, really hot yesterday at this fundraiser. why, oh why do a show on a sunday on a day over 100 degrees, on a blacktop, er, in this case, pavement?? really limits the crowd and any pictures to be taken.

have to be selective, because i already know my interest is going to decrease relative to the temperature. though there was some shady spots to retreat to, eventually, i'm not gonna keep going.

judging by other people's pictures on the net, jae bueno was there, as was howard gribble. sorry for not recognizing you guys and saying hi there. though now, after the fact, i have some guesses which faces in the crowd you might be. you got some great shots, way more than i took.

there were only a few old cars which i like there, and maybe twice as many of the low rider jumpers. still too many of both types with hoods open or just angled weird, so i skipped a lot of them. and a few that were just too flashy, as to make me giggle. but that's just me...whatever floats your boat.

both me and my better half zeroed in on this one right away. he took a bunch of shots first, while i took a walk around the rest of the cars. got back to this one last, and this is the only shot i took. i was soaked with a coating of slimy sun block and sweat, and just felt gross by then. aparently, the sun block wasn't cutting it so well, and my better half said i was starting to "get some color." just temporary, as today, nothin. never was worth my time to try and get a tan, thanks to my parents; oh but you should see my son...who used to tell me he was "dark white" when he was three years old.
