what's up?

gots balls?

ford hot rod

getting late, so i won't say much here. i'm always fascinated by these big engines and wonder why the balls in the pipes? so birds don't nest in them?

this one practically has a crown of pipes, at least from this angle. i just want to take those nerf balls out and have a water ball fight...it's been so hot lately. i think those were parking tickets plastered all over the windshield, but i don't know what the point was. maybe if i look at the large size again, i'd see what the joke was. and i love the table full of puckerbutts watching...can practically read what's going through their minds: "what in the world is she doing? why is she doing that? am i in the picture? go away..."

ever have one of those days, when stuff you said got taken all wrong and everyone is pissed at everyone else? well, i just had one; glad it's over, and man, my head hurts from even trying. i'll try harder not to care, and go back to being the wallflower that i naturally am, watching and silent in the background. geez.

no buwwets

1929 ford

i've seen this car before, and usually pass it by, because the hood is open, but mostly because of that stupid wooden billy gun. if this is the same one i remember from another show, the owner once practically begged me to come take a picture of his car, but when he went and got the gun out i could only just keep from laughing out loud, and shook my head no. could be a totally different car and owner, but i don't see too many prop guns like this one. no wait, there's that pt cruiser that has that silly stuff on it...never shoot that one either.

i was going to skip it again this time, but decided it didn't look so silly from the back, parked off by itself in the shade. still has that pea shooter sitting there, but i can ignore it just this once. had the hood up, i think, so this was the only POV i was ever going to take of it anyway. nice car. dump the prop gun...it's stupid. or else put some bullet holes in the side. want me to do that in photoshop for ya?

second time at this show. brought my bro and his family, who are visiting from the east coast for a few days. kinda disappointed in the turnout, but made up for it this morning by taking them to the show at enderle, which was much busier and had more variety.

where did the time go?

1955 ford fairlane

i haven't posted in a week. been out of town. my daughter got married. grew up while i wasn't looking. it happens.

jen

anyway, i didn't get to shoot any cars while i was there. drove past a big show on the way to somewhere else, but my family members wouldn't cater to my addiction, so had to pass it by.

finally stopped at a couple of shows this evening. over at the show off alondra. not too busy there. i suppose i was early, but still it's usually full up. walked the rows a couple of times, took not too many pictures.

headed over to the big boy in downey. that used to be pretty good. i haven't been in a couple of months probably. where have all you guys gone? there's a lot for sale sign out back, and the covering is off the fencing. what gives?

took a few shots. i liked this fairlane. pretty clean, nice paint combo, parked in a corner. nobody puts baby in the corner, but maybe this isn't baby.

i hope there's still a good turnout at the whittier uptown show later this month or i may just take a break for a while. i'm sure this is just a passing mood and i'm tired, but i thought i'd just say hi, before you start to worry...

ye olde fordes

1934 ford

so my friend from the old show at chubby's told me about this new show in huntington beach at the olde world village. think solvang. think octoberfest. ja, probably more german than scandinavian, it's a small market "village", with a meandering "cobblestone" walk that runs around the "village."

so one day a week, they let these crazy car people come and park their cars throughout the pathways and in the parking lot for the duration of the show. interesting concept, but as there is only a little over a car's width of space, once you're parked, you're there until the 8pm close.

supposedly the first night there were 150+ cars, but i think this was the third night, and i dunno where that many would go, so i'm saying maybe 75 in the village and parking lot. i did like seeing the same cars i see everywhere in a different location. and i did like that inside the market, the buildings provided enough shade to keep cool until the sun went down.

i've seen this ford in whittier, at the ruby's show a few times. just realizing i posted the hood ornament a few days ago. i like the setting for it here much better than the parking lot at ruby's, probably because it just looks better, but also because it's not crowded next to another car. and i got my shot right before more people came around that curve.

skully

1923 ford model t

this was a very nice hot rod ford at the run whatcha brung show in rialto. the owner was a very nice gentleman, that told me a bit about how he'd fixed it up. he seemed especially proud of the skull details he'd added. this one was made from a belt buckle; others were from lighters and other found items, and put onto valve stems, door locks, etc.

i liked the purple in the flames and the purple of the flowers...oh how i hate those little flowers. they fall on my car, and they make my high heels slip when i have to walk on them...but they do frame a car nicely from this angle.

oh fordy! fordy!

1939 ford coaster

been so busy at work, i mean crazy busy. the kinda busy that just makes you want to crawl in bed once you hit the door. truly not enough hours in a day, but i am happy to be up to here with work. keeps me from getting bored. anyway, it does keep me from playing with my pixels here.

i had to meet up with a couple in rialto this fine june gloomy morning at the run whatcha brung show. i actually arrived at 7am, when the cars were just showing up. don't know why i woke up so early, except that i get up before that ungodly hour all week, so it really wasn't that bad.

i'd never been to rialto, or obviouly that show, and wanted to be sure to figure out where to park. and well, i got to shoot the cars before too many people got in the way, and before the majority popped the hoods open. (ya gary, thanks for pointing out that yours was already open– lol.)(hey to your buddy that said i should stop hassling you...you should know that just makes me wanna continue...don't worry, i'll stop soon enough and go back to haranguing richard)

my take on the show: it was pretty good, not too big, only about 3 blocks long with an island down the middle. the overcast made for great lack of strong shadows – giant softbox for pictures, though it does kinda wash the colors out. and if anyone can get a sunburn between the hours of 7am and 10 am, that'd be me. i'd planned on hitting one or two other shows on the way back home, but my lightly toasted skin kinda made me skip them. didn't even stop at ontario mills – never shopped there either, just driven past.

i must say, security is very interested in anyone with a tripod and seemingly professional looking camera. i guess "professionals" need some type of permit if they intend to sell. well, i had to explain twice that it's just my hobby. they let me go on, but they still seemed kinda hesitant to believe me, and i wouldn't know how to prove otherwise if they insisted that i leave, apart from asking anyone whose car i shot if i was being one of those bad photogs. apparently, in past years, that type of pushy, "buy my pictures" photogs invaded, and they wanted to avoid that. that ain't me fer sure. so thanks to the security guys in the golf cart for being diligent in their duties, and to bev, who was also doing her job, and thanks for not making me leave. i do hope you inquired of the other couple with the tripod and the more "professional" brand camera with equal diligence.

a big camera does not always equal a pro, or even a good photographer. check the settings on most, and you'll find they never switch out of program or auto mode...that'll get them average images at best...just people with the buy the expensive camera and i'll get better pictures mentality. doesn't work if you don't know how to use it. <enter the obvious analogy here>

the owner of this car graciously closed the hood so i could take a few shots. said he'd put a small fortune into this old ford, and it shows. it totally stands out amongst the other cars, but he said it's just the color. no. nope. it is really different than the average car, and i am getting pretty jaded after chasing them down for the past year.

oh, and the couple i was meeting, finally rolled in after 9am. but all's well. i had plenty to keep me entertained before then. if only i can find the time to get them posted.

she's a beauty

1957 ford fairlane

i got up late this morning. had a hard time getting motivated. i had to be in riverside by 1 for a baseball game, and intended to stop off here at the 3rd annual phil braybrook memorial car show a bit earlier than i did. i only managed to fit in a quick half-hour run through the front of the show. shame, because i did see a number of additional cars i would have loved to shoot. my bad.

anyway, found this fairlane up in a corner of one of the lots. a guy who pretended to be the owner (hi gary)(don't be a poser)had recently commented on another car on this blog, and recognized me from a previous show i suppose. i am surprised, as i've only stopped at maybe three shows in riverside, assuming that's where i met him before. anyway, he must have read about my preference for hoods down, because he instantly asked if i wanted it closed...lol. i only shot from the back, so it wasn't necessary. i don't remember seeing this car previously, so gary, you naughty boy, just you wait til i post your own car. to the real owner: thanks for bringing it out today. it's lovely.

coulda had a v8

1934 ford

so it rained last night, but was mostly sunny today. i hadn't taken my camera with me to work, since it had rained, so i decided to go straight home. seems that if i don't stop at a car show on the way, once i get into the house, i just don't want to go back out.

by the time i got home, it was vacillating between sunny/warm and overcast/cold/windy. finally decided to skip bob's broiler yet again. almost feel like it's been forever since i went. already know i can't make it there next week either. eventually, eventually.

i figure there's ruby's on friday, and according to my mother-in-law, there's a 'vintage auto show' in uptown whittier on saturday. works for my weekend schedule anyway.

so tonight, i got off my ass and went for a 2 mile walk at least. i sit too much at work and my legs are killing me, so it felt good to get out. my better half has been working too many late nights, and he's already in bed...

__________

so i saw this grape at ruby's a couple of weeks ago. i'm not quite sure what this is, aside from a v8. guessing its a ford. i've seen it on other people's flickr pages, but they don't have it identified either.

i must admit, it did stand out in the crowd.

hot lead

1949 or 1950 mercury

so this is not a merc, as i originally thought, but a ford (thanks for the correction gary!). i do have a hard time with id when there's nothing but the bumper and wheels to go by. i'll get the next fer sure merc up tomorrow or the next day.

as i said previously, i keep seeing flame-painted low slung cars. seems to be all the rage, or cliché, but at least there are lots of variations in how they can be presented.

had enough of the showlows cars? ok, this is the last one of the bunch i have. did i miss any ronnie? such a nice collection. a nice bunch of guys.

wish there were more sunsets like the one there was this night. such pretty colors and i don't use that word too often. and i liked how it reflected on the cars, especially the lighter colored ones.

just realized i've posted over 250 cars up here...whew! time flies when you're having fun. :)
