what's up?

hey, photographer

hey, photographer! that's what i vaguely heard after i'd walked past a pop-up tent with a bunch of guys lounging in the shade. took a couple of times, before i realized they were calling to me. i don't really think about being one, so i almost had it tuned out as background noise.

turning around, got the question i'd been asked several times yesterday: you with a magazine or what do you do with your pictures? never quite sure what to say. i do post them here. one. at. a. time. or maybe some of them, never. to the few people who really seem interested, i'll post their car here, if i think the shot was decent. if it isn't, hope to see it again, in another location, with more interesting light maybe.

anyway, fun bunch of guys. viejitos from somewhere else, i think. one guy asked me to take a picture of his car. took a couple, liked this one best. if you like it, you can buy a print here.

kinda missed the focus point on the hood ornament, but i like it anyway:

------

most of the time i forget my camera will take video. shot this quick video before i left. not nearly as clean and steady as what my better half gets when he slaps his camera on his rolling tripod, so sorry. just did the say anything move, and held the camera up over my head.

------

if you know i took a shot of your car, and want to see a frame straight out of the camera, without the tlc or polish, you can go peek over here. shoot me an email, if you're interested in seeing it cleaned up, and maybe buy a print. some of them i'll get around to eventually on my own. squeaky wheel gets the grease, ya know. i have a hard enough time deciding on what to post now anyway.

holy crap

i usually don't go so long between posts, especially when i'm not on vacation or otherwise out of town, away from the puter. but i'm just soooo tired after busy days at work and sitting in traffic going home.

actually, i did work on a picture on monday, but after finishing it, decided i didn't like it so much. i have a few other angles on that particular car, so i'll try one of those another day. sorry ernie.

this is one of the solitos' cars, out on the curb by foursquare church last month. i sort of like all their cars i caught out there, so i suppose i'll get around to posting them one by one, eventually. everything's eventual. just need to find enough time.

fire within

quick post, as i run off to catch a plane to san fran to attend a two-day business meeting. gotta come back saturday to turn in my pics for the fair. kind of a bummer, as i'd prefer to have stayed the weekend, but on the other hand...i got stuff that will be hanging at the fair. so yay. better half says i'm a winner whether i get a ribbon or not...just getting selected is enough to celebrate.

sooooo tired. too much work this week. almost thought i was going to have to get a job done before i left, but it's looking like i will have to miss part of the meeting and use the boss's computer to finish. not my fault if they miss their deadline. blame the ceo.

when ya gotta go, ya gotta go. ttfn.

bevy of chevys

ok, one more from the old memories show, then i'm gonna put up a few from yesterday's solitos show.

i think all of the cars in this shot are old memories' cars. i liked the "patina" on this one. evidence that this isn't the original hood ornament either.

-----

oh, and happy father's day to my dad. he mostly can't hear what i say anymore. i think i'm on a different frequency...to which my better half would probably agree...so i'll just write it here, since i know he peeks once in a while. i'll take him out to dinner in a couple of days, when it isn't so crowded at the restaurants. i don't follow the holiday rules anyway.

celebrate your parents everyday. who knows how much time you will have them. i hope they know that i love them, though we have a tough time saying it to each other. stiff upper lip or something.

strike a pose

quick post to start today. upon returning to town yesterday, i went back out to the solitos show down the street. got there after noon, so i suspect a lot of cars had come and gone already.

anyway, i'll get to those cars after a few more from the harbor show.

noting this one, as i hadn't seen any pontiacs in the church lot, and spied it on the way back to my car. always stop to shoot the hood ornaments. as i was pulling out my camera, this lady come out of the house, saying it was her car, and jokingly saying to take a picture of her with her car. ok, why not?

opting not to pull out the other camera, this one had the 100mm lens on it, so i would have had to back up half way down the block to get the whole car in the shot. besides, i had left my bag and tripod in the way, so i hope she doesn't mind this snap of her and her car. you're infamous now, as i don't post too many peeps and their cars here. but you asked, so here you are. nice to meet you, and thanks for letting me snag a picture of your hood ornament.

like a moth

made it out to the old memories harbor area's second annual benefit show in gardena. had been there last year, and really had a good time, with lots of cars. happy to report, same good attitudes, and, i think an even better show. organization was good, lots of wonderful cars and clubs represented. any worry that the ink and iron show would take away cars was unnecessary.

many of the guys remembered me from last year, which was nice. they were all very enthusiastic about the turn out. really nice bunch of guys. and happily, they didn't seem to mind letting me in early. i arrived just before a long line of cars pulled in. i'd seen them assembling down the street in an empty parking lot. almost stopped over there first.

was still overcast and cool at eight am. wanted to get in as many shots as possible before the sun burned through, and started to get to me. i was having a really good time. even better when i discovered there were some very big fans inside the k1 sports building, and that helped a lot.

up front were a couple of rows of the host club's cars. spent a good bit of time with those. pretty stoked that there were so many of the classic cars i love all around the show.

i got a lot of good pictures. i'll start with this one, because its off in the corner, and no one was wandering through the shot. beautiful car. not sure if or which club it belonged to, since i don't remember seeing a plaque.

i know it's a good show when i run through a camera battery, and still want more. yep, i'm the moth, i can't help myself...

i'd stayed for four hours before i knew it. needed to find some lunch and there were still cars driving up as i was leaving, arguing with myself on whether i should come back for more, or get home and get stuff done...flipped a coin...and went home.

looking forward to next year...great show!

sahh-weet

been seeing a lot of classic cars driving past the house lately. my own little car show from my window. my better half said like nine old cars in a row drove by this afternoon, heading uptown. cool, but my question is, how is it you're cruisin' and not workin'?

speaking of my better half, this was his choice of cars i shot in pomona. i have too many, and i just can't decide. was either this one or a shiny, chopped buick eight.

got a picture framed for the fair. my better half was uptown, and picked it up for me from the framers'. never used him before; but he was cheaper than fastframe. not perfect, but good enough. my better half was out picking up lunch for his mom, so he ended up sitting with it in the restaurant, balancing it on his feet, hanging onto the hanging wire, while simultaneously trying to text me at work. the thing wasn't wrapped up or corner protected, so he was basically displaying it to everyone. apparently, he got lots of attention. sorry about that d.

his mom is doing much better. so much so, that he is planning on going to rialto on saturday for the run whatcha brung show for a few hours. should be fun.

still not early enough

got my ass out of bed at 5ish last sunday, so i could head out to the pomona fairgrounds for the car show and swap meet before the day heated up. by the time i drove over, sat in the line of cars heading up the hill, parked out in the plural zed alpha of the parking lot and walked over to the show cars by the grandstands, it was already 7:30am. sheesh.

but damn. so many cars. i got going quickly and shot a bunch before i had to take a break from the sun and have breakfast. and cold water. trying to cut back on the coca-cola. and oh how i want to have one. like all the time. probably why i'm so tired all the time now.

anyway, aside from working too much, i spent the other day just sorting through my shots. i got a lot of nice ones, which is both good and bad. i have so many i like, i can't decide what to post.

this fleetline was actually my first shot of the day. used my old wide angle lens to start with, then switched later in the day to the new one. i think this is one of the bridge town oldies sgv cars, but i could be wrong. they were parked at this end of the grandstand, but there were a few that weren't showing any club affiliation mixed in.

i do love a nice fleetline.

gotta get there earlier next time...what's that, get up at like 3 in the morning...errrr.

a tad too much

i've seen this car a few times now. i do appreciate the detail and engraving. really, it can be impressive. the interior reflected this exterior, if you can imagine...apparently, i didn't take any pictures of it.

but like women and jewelry, ya gotta know when to stop. although, some women would probably argue with me on that point, but i'm not like them anyway, and i can do without the bling.

cadillac, in my head, as the advertisers have pummeled into it, envisions high living and good taste, perhaps a hint of extravagance...and i'll leave it at that.
