what's up?

motivation

chevy panel truck

saw this one at the legends show at point fermin. the owner wasn't around, but a guy who said he did the restoration on it was there. said it only took about seven or eight months to fully rework it, since the owner had the cash to get it done quickly. otherwise, he said it typically takes several years.

he did a pretty good job, i think. guess money changes everything, no?

destiny

1953 chevrolet suburban

this was the staging area for the whittier car show just before seven a.m. a seemingly endless line of cars down the main street, then other lines going down the cross streets, which you can't see from here. these guys should consider themselves lucky to have to wait it out here, in the shade. the side street guys were already getting hit by the sun.

so i took advantage of the captives and had my way with their cars at my leisure. still close together, but this time, nose to tail.

i don't remember seeing this one around before. i like these type trucks/vans/whatever you call them, with the big shiny sides; they reflect whatever is near them so well, when the light hits just right.

the great and powerful

why i don't really like shooting in the middle of a hot summer day: harsh shadows, blown out detail, and it's frickin' hot. well, there were pockets of cool breezes, especially at the intersections, but there wasn't where this truck was parked.

simply liked the irridescent color on this. i like green. green and chrome. what i'd drive on a cruise out of the emerald city.

there was one of those children's push cars next to it all spiffed up in hot pink and pinstriped like the big kid's cars next to it. kinda bouncing pink on to the whitewall tire, but i like the contrast with the green.

looks like someone slapped a giant post-it on the window. wonder what it would say?

el canas, again

ok, throwing you a bone. the owner of this car has joked with me for several years now. ran into him yesterday at ruby's, on a brief break from the dog. i've posted it and his other car a couple of times before, but its been a while.

he confessed to occasionally spending/wasting a couple hours at a time reading my blog. had mentioned that i hadn't been posting much lately, which leads me to wonder how closely he's been reading, as i've mentioned several times that i have become enslaved to a very large puppy for a month and a half.

anyway, i've had this picture of his truck from a hooters show sitting in my to-do collection for a while, so i might as well show it to him now. we'll see if he comments next time i see him...

it's a nice truck, always very clean. here it sits with another car from his club, the wolves. i suppose if he didn't talk to me so much, i would've stopped shooting pictures of it by now, as it really has very simple, plain lines. but i do like how the paint picks up reflections, which is why i sometimes do shoot these types of vehicles.

and in case you were wondering, i've worn the dog out today with three long walks so far, so he's been sleeping at my feet for a while. gonna have to take him on another long walk or two before bed, and my foot is kinda aching already. i really slow him down. three more weeks until the kid comes home...i've been counting down the days since he left.

ok, i guess i better work on a couple of other projects while the hairy child is still sleeping.

shhh the dog is asleep

chevy truck

he's running me ragged. big, hairy attention whore. remind me never to get a big puppy again. but he is getting me back into some kind of shape, which is good, since i sit all day in front of a computer. still something like forever to go. i hope i make it until his owner gets back home.

so, i gotta get some sleep, but i have already missed so many days playing with my pictures. so close, yet so far. i sit down, the dog wants to play tug-o-war. i stand up, he wants to be chased or go for a walk. but i think i've worn him out for the night.

so, quickly. here's a truck. i don't know for sure what year, so i won't bother to guess. night all...

purple rein

ford truck

i've seen this truck before. also saw it somewhere else, but didn't like where it was located, and passed it by.

but here, the big, tough truck, in front of trees full of flowers, and no one around, how could i not take that shot?

i didn't get to the braybrooks show, so i made the best of the day, and hit this high school show and another in whittier. this one had a live band playing oldies, under the hot sun, on the back of a flatbed semi truck. pretty good show too. seemed pretty proud of their guitars too.

too many hoods up. i suppose i should have taken another shot of redd's plymouth back there, but he didn't even say hi, so whatever. j/k. didn't like the shade on it.

yet another truck

1953 chevy 3100 truck

found this one in the next field over from the last post. i think it was the oldies car club, but correct me if i'm wrong. belongs to one of the few guys that talked to me and asked me to take a picture of his truck. most people usually talk to my better half; he says i usually look too focused or serious, or even pissed for people to approach. lol. that would be the protective shell around my shyness. or i'm actually busy looking at the cars and not noticing people.

anyway, first i'll post the cars that belong to people that talked to me, then i'll post stuff i like when i like. i'll work on the other truck tomorrow, if i don't work too late.

to the guy that owns this car, if you're interested, you can go buy a print here.

home again

chevy truck

i survived my week in washington state. didn't want to disappoint the kid, so dutifully marched all over the place, or rather gimped. by the end of the week, though i had to nix the three hour car ride to hike in a rain forest. did the space needle instead. just got back to the car when it started to rain, then hail...so that was pretty cool. thunder is very loud over puget sound.

she thought i'd enjoy the lemay auto museum, and it was really interesting, but as they all go, no tripods allowed, and stuff is roped off, so i mostly focused on hood ornaments. i don't know when i'll find time to go through all the pictures i took.

i'm running on four hours of sleep, and getting home after getting picked up from the airport is a story in itself. and a panic run to the tax preparer and race to the post office to pay uncle sam. and i still don't feel much better than when i left on the trip.

anyway, here's another truck. found it on the fringe of a car show; i hope only because there were no spaces available in the main lot. nice ride. like the pinstripes.

taking a trip

1953 chevy 3100 truck

should be an interesting week ahead. still getting over whatever it is—bronchitis, a cold, i have no idea—and still wearing the cyborg leg. heading north and i'm really wishing i could just cancel the trip and sleep. my better half is staying here—when you gotta work, you gotta work and is mostly out of vacation time.

thought i should get vertical for a couple of hours, so though i'm not really feeling it, started flipping through a couple years of pictures. i couldn't decide what to post. this isn't the best picture, but i still like it. night shots at the broiler are always interesting, and never know what kind of colors will pop up with the lighting.

also starting to think about entering a few pictures at the fair again. i can't decide what i like best, which wouldn't necessarily be anything the judges would pick. if you have any favorites, drop me an email.

think i'll go lay down again. still have one more day before i go, so maybe i'll post again.
