what's up?

no show?

i had such a busy day at work. barely left my chair. i was so looking forward to getting out to a show. was that or stay and work some overtime.

i left on time, and will probably have to work late tomorrow.

headed over to the advertised impalas show. slightly early, so i went inside and had dinner. killed some time. about 5:30, i'm done. outside, nothing. so go to the broiler or just head home? i'm tired. i head home.

an old truck pulled in as i was leaving...

so, maybe they showed up later. it was a work day after all. but i was disappointed anyway.

------

here's a beauty from last year. used to go to the show at spires, err, not spires...perris? i don't remember. the show got smaller and smaller each time, so i pretty much skip it now. but there were some nice cars there at times.

------

ok, i'm done sitting for the day. time for bed.

hot and pink

posting another picture tonight, because i already know i won't be able to tomorrow.

anyone notice that it's getting to be a little on the hot side this week? i gotta get something to wear besides blue jeans; they just hold the heat in and i'm just gonna have a heat stroke.

hot rod

stopped by three shows this evening: one in anaheim (too early, hardly anything there yet), peris, and bob's big boy in downey (only stayed fifteen minutes). lots to choose from at the peris show, stayed about an hour.

this ford hot rod stood out from all the other hot rods there. probably because it was hot pink and had pinstriped flames. even had an airbrushed portrait of a hot rod and the tasmanian devil on the back.

anyway, it was neato. i've got a shower waiting for me now...gotta go.

dragon master

1936 chevrolet

this hood ornament goes with this 1936 chevrolet that i saw again this past week at the show at alondra and the 605. maybe its not so much a dragon, as it is a phoenix, but i like it. it is a beautiful vehicle. i think it made the blue pop a little too much here; it's actually a bit darker blue – i'll try to restrain myself in the future. again, my monitor is a bit out of whack, so i'll have to check it on another computer somewhere.

the green truck is pretty nice too. both of the owners got out of the picture for me, but maybe i should have asked them to move that ratty chair too. lol. just kidding. you probably didn't realize i was framing up both cars anyway.

*************

everyone that had a good time at the whittier uptown car show today, raise your hands! saw a few people i knew, and a whole lot of wonderful cars. what a blast! total pictures for the day: 674. enough to keep me busy when the rain comes.

i coulda had a v8

34 ford

just got home from the x games. saw the guy get smashed by his motorcycle. looked real bad, but they say he'll be ok.

quick post then off to bedski.

this 1934 ford was at the show off alondra and the 605. nice old car. looks a little odd straight on, so i've cropped it here. i left the ghosts in the background...maybe they came with the car?

damn fine thirty-nine

1939 chevy

so i stopped at the show at the peris on alondra last wednesday. what the hell was a power 106.7 booth doing at an oldies car show cranking out the shitty new music ultra loud doing there? i'm not that old, and i do listen to that station, but wtf, it doesn't belong at a show like this. when i got there, the car show people were playing some really good brian setzer, perfectly fine, even if not from the 50's. but damn if 106.7 wasn't playing the most inane music with no meaningful lyrics, just butt-thumping beat and singers that can't sing without a studio enhancement...geez.

anyway, this beautiful ‘39 chevy master deluxe was sitting in the corner of the aisle, sun hitting it just so. the owner was sitting at a table to the right, presumably collecting entrance/raffle fees(?) for the show. his buddies were giving him a hassle about an inflated ego, if his car ended up on my website. so here you go, don't let it float away with you.

orange you glad

1965 chevy chevelle

so this one was just kind of a dare. the owner didn't think i could get the color of his car right; i guess most pictures don't catch the tangerine orange sparkle/glitter paint very well. it probably still is somewhat off, especially when you throw in the yellows from the sun setting behind me onto the paint.

i'm going to have to start carrying a swatch book so i at least have some reference for what the color should be.

300

300

almost as buff as those guys in that 300 movie, this 1962 chrysler 300 caught my eye last week at the show at the former spires restaurant off the 605 and alondra. first time visiting this show. great selection of cars. a bit farther than i usually go, and i got there later than i intended on surface streets, avoiding the freeway. lots of friendly people, really good crowd waiting for the raffle/trophies.

talked to many people, watching the sun slip away. then decided to pack it up and head to the broiler. late, too cold, not many cars left. and more people stopping to chat. seeing more people showing up with tripods too. interesting.

oh, and my road trip to seattle was interesting too. you would not believe how many classic cars are sitting and rusting in junk yards and backyards along the highway through oregon and washington. too bad i did not have time to stop and check some of them out. anything from the 30s to late 60s frequently made me snap my head around to see.

I had hoped to squeeze in a car show, but the only one in town was too far away and it was raining. thought maybe i could visit the lemay auto museum but was taken on a tour of seattle instead, lunch at cheesecake factory and quick run through pike's place market, before being dropped off at the airport.

facing a tough week at work, extra hours...hoping to be able to post a picture each day, but not sure that i will be able to. probably won't be able to hit any car shows until friday at the earliest either. hmmm friday: ruby's in whittier or main street in garden grove...both so tempting.
