what's up?

just another day

so its kind of trying to rain outside. just rain already.

vacation time is way better when you've got something or somewhere planned to be. i got nothin. maybe if it was spending the time in my own house, rather than my better half's. but my kid is still living there for at least one more semester.

i guess i'm looking forward to freeing all my stuff from storage. it will be like christmas. then deciding on what i don't really need anymore—been without it for four years—so how much of it is just old baggage from a past life?

meanwhile...three more days to figure out what to do with. still doing backups and copyright filing.

thought this one from bob's big boy was ok. this car parks here a lot. if he's handicapped, that would be the reason. anyway, the car sits, i move. i liked this angle this time.

wondering if more than a few cars show up at the broiler on wednesday nights anymore. might just go over tomorrow if its not raining. week before xmas, used to get the lights on the drive-in and wreaths on the cars, so...

aliens

1961 pontiac bonneville

nighty night. at least its friday. i'd say at least next week is only a three-day work week, but i will be having to jam a full week's work into a shorter time. here's to hoping everyone is out of town, and traffic will get me home in under two hours. i doubt it.

so the sprinkly rain the last couple of days doesn't bode well for weekend shows. i don't have any one particular planned to go, so if its not raining, i may go see what's out there. or i could just as happily dip into my digital garage all weekend and try to post a few.

this car is from back in january at the broiler and the infamous red skies the camera picks up there. must be the lighting in the neighborhood. or martian atmosphere. what else could that purple thing be in the sky? invasion coming?

i don't like coffee

1962 cadillac

can't stand the smell of it. can't imagine how foul that inky molten sludge must taste as it scorches down your throat. flavored varieties just add an overtone to the stench below.

no thanks. i prefer my caffeine cold. gimme a coke anytime. though, if you think about it, is probably just as bad for you. rusts nails and stuff. wonder if it would remove tarnish off of silverware?

anyway, besides the point. these cadillac guys are almost always here at bob's. they play musical chairs with the parking spots. this one got lucky tonight, out from under the roof of the drive-up, and below the neon. and just a hint of the last of the sunset. and the white paint really reflects all of that color back.

haven't been there in over a month. now the time has changed, and it gets dark early. in spite of the longer drive from the new office, i still got there about five-thirty. apparently, still too early for much to be there, but i just didn't feel like waiting. going to "bed" "early," if you can call nine-thirty early.

reflected

chevy wagon

i liked the car; hated the rims. loved the reflection in the window.

not much going on at the broiler again. too few cars to keep my attention for long. did see several guys i've gotten to know a little over the past few years. nice to see them again.

my better half came along with the nephew. not sure if he's wanting to spend the time with me or really wanted to take some pictures. they were going to go bowling afterwards, but apparently the lanes were all full, call back in a couple of hours, thanks for nothing. guess after i get this post up, he gets to spend more time with me like he wanted to anyway. >:)

perfectly imperfect

1955 buick century

went to the broiler yesterday. was feeling a bit wobbly and warm, so bought a coke and walked around before pulling my gear out of the trunk. the usual suspects were there, a few were missing, several new ones to be found. a few too many muscle cars for my taste. too many hoods up.

out of all the cars i saw, this was the one that really caught my eye. was the first one i had to shoot before i lost the light. i'm sure the guys with the shiny, wonderful cars were watching incredulous that i'd bother with this one, and not even give theirs a thought. location, light, character win over perfect most often. can't pay to have this done to your car. only time can do this. eh, and an owner that doesn't pay attention. maybe it sat in a yard for years; i don't know, didn't talk to the owner, wherever he was.

did chat with a group of betatted guys, one of which came over and said he'd seen me shooting pictures for years here, and always wondered what i did with them. didn't catch his name, but ya, i recognized the indelible girl on his right arm. i believe i've got him lurking in the background of a number of pictures, inevitably. showed him my book, handed him a card. welcome to my digital garage, if you haven't lost the card yet, and make it this far.

sunset kisses

1951 chevy truck

did you guys see the sunset last night? wow. and it just really popped this truck, in spite of the matte paint job.

almost missed this bunch of chevys at the very back of the lot at the broiler. i was about ready to pack it up, but was waiting on my better half, who was playing with a lensbaby on his camera and chatting up another truck owner at the front of the lot. i always keep half an eye out for anything new driving into the show. you know what i mean—when you hear them before you see them. usually happens right after i've packed my gear up, only to be forced to decide whether or not to pull it all back out.

so this handful of cars drove through...there were no empty spots up front...it was happily busy for a change. some of the best stuff can be found in the back lot because they show up later. only complaint is the lack of lighting at the back, especially if its getting dark and i'm on my own.

anyway, i got several shots of these cars with spectacular skies behind them. i'll have to post them eventually. getting late now, so you'll have to settle for just one.
