what's up?

effected

there's a chevy under there: glitter, chrome, airbrush, pinstripe, reverse doily/lace, glass etching...i dunno...a bit much? interesting, but i don't know where to look first. sorry.

long day, so i'll bite my tongue and stop now.

black widow

i saw this car up on philadelphia, with it's club, lo nuestro, and thought i recognized it. went back behind it to check out the altar set up and found this:

i took a bunch of shots before the owner asked the usual questions. lots of details on this car. hard to decide where to look first.

i asked her if she had been at the chicano park show back in april. yep. that's where it was. i remembered exactly where it was parked—right here on the grass, in the middle of the park:

on another note...i had been on call to do some work today for the office. waited at home all day, until about four. decided it wasn't going to happen today, and decided i was going to drive out to covina to check out the real classics car show. i've had their card sitting on a shelf for several months now; one of many that have been handed to my better half to be passed on to me. supposedly their halloween show.

i got about half way there, when they sent me a message that the file was ready to work on, so i had to drive all the way back home to do ten minutes worth of work. then wait for the ok. so, by the time they approved it, i figured if i got back in the car and drove up there, i'd have about fifteen minutes before the sun went down. decided to wait until next month. they'll be having a food drive then...

thinking of going to the pomona swap meet tomorrow, before it gets too hot out. hoping the morning clouds that have been out for several days, are still around. they make the sky more interesting, and reflect so well on the polished cars.

and i also have a flyer for a groupe ela car show...maybe could swing by there on the way home...

along comes mary

so another photographer, who i think actually does work for a magazine, print or otherwise, had this guy move his car over here by the fountain. bunch of guys on the wall said so, and seemed to be in a particularly fine mood for this time of day. not sure if they'd been partaking of the red solo cups or just feeling giggly.

i don't ask people to move their cars; just shoot'em as i find them, hopefully without too many poles and wires in the background. hey, its a great composition, so i shot it too. all the while wondering how he got it wedged in here without bumping anything or the other cars that were parked in the spaces behind me. must have used the airbags to get it up and over the curbs.

and what's up with mary? she' tied up with wonder woman's lasso. nah, just a rosary, oddly draped on her. somebody must have low fived her too hard, since she's also missing a hand.

tricicleta

don't know why i'm posting this one. i didn't give them a card.

this kind of bugged me. not the bike. not the kid(s). not the music he was blaring out of the box tied on the back of his trike, at least in a different setting. he/they kinda held still long enough for my shot.

the thing was the rap/crap he was blaring was blabbering on about fuckin', asses, eff yah, shit, etc.

that doesn't bother me. i love throwing out f-bombs all day, every day. it wouldn't be my first choice in music, but that isn't it.

i think it's that, how old is that kid? he can't be older than ten, right? why the fuck doesn't it bother his mother/father that he's listening to that shit, much less blaring it at the show? i know, he/they think its cool and hip. part of the car culture? gimme angel baby oldies any day. kids don't need that crap at that age. actually, the grown ups don't need it either. it's crap. sounds stoooopid. but whatever.

the kid isn't smiling. that music isn't the kind to be happy with. not even to be bored by. gotta look tough. cuz somehow by extension, you're gangsta cuz ur listening to tuff muzak. have you really listened to the words? idiotic most of the time. you're so fly. <ending rant>

------

i heard a kid arguing with his mother/guardian/whoever yesterday at pollo loco. teenager. full of angst. wanted to drop out of school. argued he could get a job, the usual kid think. it's so easy. didn't want to do the work at school.

wanted to go slap him silly. dumbass. i've known the type...old relatives. he'll end up working his ass off harder then he ever would have doing homework, if not just sitting on his ass all day, living off everyone around him.

------

ya, ya. neither situation is my business. must be the hormones...wait...holy crap...i'm turning into my mother!!! aaaaaaahhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!

little green men

back from vegas. was up at like three in the morning, thanks to the drunk aholes that decided to hang out in the hallway by my room. talking loudly, not caring what time it was. always about themselves and what fun they are having. idiots.

when i decided that i might as well get up and go, they had just stumbled back into their room and i suppose were sleeping. then some stupid girl comes and timidly knocks on the door. then knocks a little louder. then pounds at it, until the other idiot gets up and lets her in.

you don't know how badly i wanted to bang on the door or go to the lobby and call their room several times. but i just wanted to get going.

usually, i go to the cars and coffee show on my way out of vegas. i would have been a bit early. could have waited, but typically, the first cars there for the first hour are stuff i don't care about: pns cars that guys literally just bought and think they should show them off; pt cruisers, muscle cars, shelbys, ferraris, etc. decided not to wait around.

stopped in baker to stretch my legs. was driving by, heading to whichever eating establishment might be open at this hour, and had to turn around to get this shot. over at alien jerky. been a million years since i've been inside, and don't remember seeing these things outside. it's like maybe 7 am. no one else around. but this dude is just sitting there looking at his cell phone. no other car in the lot. maybe he's an alien. offered to take my picture in front of this car, but no way am i handing the random dude my camera, nor do i want to be in front of it.

noticed there are aliens in the car, on the roof, and sitting about randomly. the alien in the car moves his head back and forth very slowly. wonder if they light up at night.

anyway, long week. back to work tomorrow, and lots of it already lined up. few more weeks and i'm off for another week for vacation. no idea where we're going. we've been too busy to sit down and book it.

the only thing i liked about my annual trip to vegas, was a portrait lighting class i took. thinking about maybe shooting some of you more interesting personalities at the shows, or maybe even the pinup girls, so thought maybe i should learn about how to do it. spent several hours with several athletic types under big umbrella lights and soft boxes. not really how i would take pics of people at car shows, but i like to understand the theory of how to use lighting better. i was really too shy to deal directly with them, and tell them how to pose, so i shot from the sidelines...pretty much how i do with cars.

here's stephan...he's so yum.

muy bueno

i've seen the famous bueno family impala several times now. another car that i just can't get enough of. so many details. airbrushing, etched chrome and pinstripes all over. can never get up high enough to shoot the roof of these kinds of things.

there's stephanie waiting patiently. i don't know her well enough to know what she's thinking, so i won't presume to guess. we pass each other at shows, and don't say much more than hello. i'm shy. she doesn't seem shy. so it's just me.

other people we ran into at this show expressed happiness that she was there, and getting out, making the effort to be out with people. i imagine it can't be easy.

saw her around the show later in the day, without a camera in her hand. that was unusual.

his own, personal, jesus

i've been spotting some really incredible impalas lately. clean, etched, engraved, hydraulics, airbrushed and pinstriped.

saw this stylistics car at the church show too.

what might that man be looking at in the trunk besides the engraved hydralical system? ah, there it is now...

the girl on the wheel cover must have been calling him earlier... >:)

fortune teller

this car had a lot going on. so i took some shots of it.

the little pics show the airbrushed paintings under the hood and in the trunk. pretty nice. too bad all the chromed hydraulics and engine parts are reflecting so mightily onto the images. guess i would need a big black cloth to cover the chrome to get a proper picture, but this is good enough to give you the idea.

click on one of the pictures to go over to my flickr page to see some other details from the car if you want.

can you tell i got nothin' to talk about? too tired. thought about going to the broiler for a change, but i just didn't have the energy to sit in traffic for another forty-five minutes to get there.

just telling myself: two more days. two more days. then i can sleep in. pomona this weekend i think. same day as my son's birthday, so, thinking i can get up real early and go shoot some pictures before heading down to do something with him. no idea at all what to get him, and i hate shopping...i'm so bad.
