what's up?

happy easta

quick post then to bed.

-----

saw this delivery truck at the majestics easter show too. owners seemed very pleasant, but didn't move out of the way fast enough, though they offered to move later. nope, sit there if you want; i'll shoot around you. actually, if you really want to be in a picture with your car, you can just ask. throw down your signs, look tuff, show off your tats. could be fun once in a while.

-----

happy easter, if i don't see you in chicano park. off to sleep...my eyes feel like they're gonna fall out. what a week it has been. what a month. more to come. so dang busy at work, this weekend couldn't get here soon enough. san diego, here i come!

road warrior

i always feel worn out after the drive home from work. typically takes over an hour when it should only be about forty-five minutes.

and people on the freeway are insane, so i'm not the only one. but really, most people drive fine; it's the one too many f-holes that think they are exceptional and the road is theirs. you know the ones i mean—they swerve in and out of lanes, giving semi-trucks no effective warning or brake space. they'll drive up the shoulder if need be.

ya, my hands hurt sometimes from gripping the wheel too tight. after a long day at work, followed by that drive, i feel about as old and tired as this truck.

but it's still here. and so am i. i need a vacation, but don't have one scheduled. maybe i'll visit my kid tomorrow and sit in the jacuzzi. better half can't go anywhere on weekends until his mother is better, and even then he'll worry about her.

blue moon

this truck is a bit over the top for my taste, but it isn't mine, so there it is. it just happened to be parked at the front, prominently underneath the host's signage, so i shot it. might as well show you the back as well. glitter and flames, and a bit chopped. hmmm.

shout out to hillco fasteners...another great show. if not for that pesky football game, it could have run a few more hours, and i could have got more cars.

painted on the back were the words "blue moon." what that has to do with the truck, aside from an affinity for the drink, i don't know.

stop please

i spent most of the weekend with my better half. part of saturday at disneyland, which i haven't been to for a a year or two, and out to dinner with my parents. then today, he walked with me for a couple of miles, just for the exercise, and it was a nice, sunny and cool day. stopped in at the little local art gallery, then walked home imagining hanging some of my pictures up in there.

i had mentioned that the grand national show was running all weekend. he fully expected me to head over there at some point. he joked about getting up and going this morning, and letting me know how it was, but that didn't happen either. it just isn't one of the shows that interests me. perhaps after checking out more of my flickr contacts' photostreams, i will feel differently, but past years' photos haven't convinced me to get out there.

anyway, here's one from last week out there at the fairgrounds. nice as anything they might have shown this weekend.

the owner was in the truck, and was moving, ready to head out, when i signaled that i'd like to shoot a picture. he nodded and stopped.

i got down low, so as not to have him in the picture, and tried to be quick. little did i know, he had gotten out of the cab, and was on the other side chatting with someone. i mouthed thanks over the noise of the engine and other cars queueing up to leave behind me.

i thought it was a standout, and it was probably the colors and the chrome that made me do it.

got home in only an hour today. did everyone call in sick today? recovering from the drive home in holiday traffic? i don't know, but i can only hope it continues being a relatively shorter and easier commute in the afternoon. though there were still those a--holes that feel the need to weave through the lanes at the fastest speed possible. idiots. go pull your head out, you won't get where you're going any faster, unless you are looking for the pearly gates...or maybe the fiery stank below, which is where i like to mutter at you as you whizz by.

blah blah blah. weird day. and i'm tired anyway. so i'll keep it short.

i'm not sure of the year of this beauty, but that's no surprise. anyone care to help a lady out, and let me know, so i can make a note of it?

i like how the sun is glinting on the squiggles left by the buffer and of the last vestiges of wax on the hood. otherwise polished to perfection. liking the honey tones here. more frequently see these all in one color, so nice for a change.

i'm thinking the blanket vendor behind the car there didn't sell as much as she had hoped, being that it was so hot outside. no worries. cold weather is coming.

puppy love

1945 chevrolet truck

was going to call this one gravy, in the vein of thanksgiving, was going to babble on how mine went. simply ordinary, with ten other family members and a dog beast; several whom have not made the trek to gramma's house in a few years. but why would you care?

but then i spotted the puppy. he makes this beat up, imperfect truck bearable.

the owner of both wondered why i was shooting a picture of the truck, knowing it wasn't as pretty as other cars. i do this for fun, i enjoy taking the pictures. if you like them, and buy a print, it helps pay for this website, and somewhat towards buying replacement cameras, more backup drives, saving for a new lens.

i take pictures of the cars that i like, that catch my eye. i know i have a hard time accepting compliments. i guess this guy was feeling the same, in a manner of speaking.

------

had planned on going out to riverside for a couple of shows tomorrow, but instead will be taking my car in for some unplanned maintenance. so that sucks. december is looking pretty busy, so if i get to a show, i get to a show.

oh, hey, i got a new box of "business" cards, featuring cars i've shot over the past year. a different car on the back of every one. it's fun opening a new batch, seeing how they look in print. collect the whole set.

ditman and first

the owner of this truck stopped me up the street and asked if i'd shot it and where he would be able to see pics. i hadn't been there long, so no, i hadn't at that point. i asked which car was his and got "the black truck down there," as he abstractly waved his hand toward the street.

so i'm assuming this black truck was his, since it was parked with the other bomb club cars and he happened to be wearing a bomb club shirt. there were other trucks up there in the vagueness he'd motioned to, but i don't think there happened to be another black one nearby.

i don't always take a shot just because they ask. depends on the person. some just assume i will. ask nicely and/or have a nice car parked in an interesting spot. he lucked out on all counts.

the car was clean. i liked the details.

was out of town this weekend, and had hoped for rain. didn't take my camera with me. woke up to a bright, sunny day. fine, as there weren't any shows going on where we were, and if no one tells me about one i missed it will be like it didn't happen, right?

east first

someone gave me a flyer for the old memories east la show out on first street. kinda wished we had gotten up and out earlier, because it turned out to be more than we expected. the veterans celebration took up four or five blocks of the street and included a stage and music.

lucked out and got parking fairly close and headed out to the end of the street and unpacked. first block on one side was taken up with bomb club cars. i've seen some of them before. several of the guys stopped to talk to me, so lucky you, i'll start with your cars.

getting late, so i'll just quickly start with another truck, since i think the owner was the first one to say hey. i think the shot from the other side was maybe the better view, but the sun had gotten too high, and my shadow was too close to the car, as was anyone who was walking behind me, so here it is from the other side.

happy that there some smallish clouds in the sky, they always make a better picture. better than the plain blue that is more typical, and they reflect so well in the polished slates that are the hoods of the cars.

why?

1953 chevy truck

so this gorgeous truck wasn't quite in the show at st hilary's, but in the parking lot just outside. sometimes i find some extraordinary cars just outside of the best shows, in parking lots, on the street, around the block.

i figure it's the entry fee, they arrived after the lot got too full, or just too late to enter the competition. otherwise, i just don't know. come on, guys like to whip'em out and compare them, so come on inside the gate and play the game.

the only thing i really don't like on this otherwise perfecto truck, is the stupid, asinine bullet hole sticker on the front, just next to the headlight. i just don't get those. you want a bullet hole on your car, just shoot it already.

its nice being at a show early. guys park their babies and go off to socialize or find breakfast. and i can pretty much futz around with my camera without interruption, or lots of people wandering into the frame.

sometimes its more interesting with a couple of people in the frame, helping to tell a story about a car show. but this time, i preferred the fog.

i've managed to take a few rows of cars like this lately. just haven't had time, as usual, to do anything with them.
